Was bored one day and told myself I would draw a good male figure one of these days so I did some studying. I noticed that every time I draw a man he always ends up looking too feminine. I think a lot of people have the same problem so I did some studies of the top 100 most beautiful men and really looked at why the looked like masculine.
It came to my surprise that ears, eyes, and lips are relatively neuter features, when taken away from the rest of the face we can see that both men and women have the same eyes. In attractive men however, it seems that people like men with smaller and less open eyes. There are some exceptions though.
Some very masculine features are heavy eyebrows that are low and close to the eye. The are for the most part straight across with little arch to it. I've noticed that men with bigger eyes are favored with arched or angled eyebrows.
Another feature was the jaw width, this seems to be an attractive trait in both men and women but men seem to have more exaggerated jaw lines. They also have rounded chins that are wider that a woman's. Cheekbones also seem to be a littler higher on some, but that is debatable.
So that was my study of men. I think it was helpful for me to figure out what makes a man look masculine. Oh and don't follow the upper left hand face, the nose and the ear lobes should be on the same level. I don't know why I left it.
